The Belsfield Wedding, Windermere

Wildly romantic and blissfully secluded. This perfectly sums up one of the UK's largest national parks and is the reason why we love being a Lake District wedding photographer. After capturing Sophie & Richard’s wedding on a beautiful April day at The Belsfield on the shores of Lake Windermere, we truly believe the Lake District is one of the most picturesque places to get married. And we've been to a lot of places!

As a Lake District wedding photographer we actually made our way to the venue the day before the wedding - which was perfect. So, we settled in and made the most of the stunning surroundings before the big day kicked off. 

Firstly, Sophie and her bridal party - all dressed in matching blue and white pyjamas - got ready together at The Belsfield. It was a lovely relaxed morning with the bridesmaids and Sophie’s mum certainly took great pride in helping her daughter into her dress before the emotional big reveal to her dad. In essence, a perfect morning before the wedding.

The church was decorated with white flowers, foliage and candles and matched their wedding style perfectly. During the ceremony we were treated to some live music by Sophie’s cousin and readings by some of their loved ones. But can we just talk about the confetti for a minute…wow! Sophie and Richard’s confetti tunnel outside St Martin’s Church in Windermere was quite possibly the most epic we’ve witnessed. They were barely visible in a flurry of white confetti, it really was quite magical and a lot of fun to shoot.

There was a small mishap with their wedding car, an incredible pillar-box red vintage e-type Jaguar broke down just a few minutes from the hotel.  They were a little late to the drinks reception, but they had a story to tell! Luckily the groom’s dad, who had lovingly restored the car, was on hand to get it up and running again. 

Few places are more romantic than the Lake District. As such it’s not hard to find a number of beautifully positioned venues in this iconic part of the world. One of which is The Belsfield, the setting for Sophie & Richard’s wedding reception. This modern but charming hotel nestled on the shores of Lake Windermere delivered the most mesmerising panoramic views over the water, with sailing boats, mountain vistas and verdant abundance. It was also the perfect location to shoot some gorgeous couples’ shots as the sun went down.

Lake District Weddings

Honestly we couldn’t have wished for a more perfect day for such a wonderful couple. The setting was just sublime and their attention to detail was second to none. From the all-white wedding flowers, to the gents in black tie and the simple but utterly stylish wedding venue décor. It was classic, beautiful and totally them. They even brought their two super cute dogs, Coco and Minnie along for the ride!

But it was the evening when things really switched up a gear, it was clear they were a really fun bunch who were looking forward to the big party celebrations in the evening. Their first dance, which took place in the beautiful Belsfield Restaurant, was so memorable because we managed to pull up the blinds just in time to catch the last of the sunset over the hills beyond. The views here are truly to die for. But it was their saxophonist that really got the party started! She played along to the DJ and the dance floor was heaving all night long.
