Hotel du Vin Wedding in Henley-on-Thames
Hillary and Ciaran’s Oxfordshire wedding at Hotel du Vin, Henley-on-Thames was quite possibly one of the most heartfelt, emotional and truly moving weddings we’ve ever had the pleasure of filming. We knew as soon as they got in touch that it would be a good one. The blend of cultures, their stylish ideas and with a beautiful love story at the heart, but nothing prepared us for the day that unfolded before our eyes (and cameras!). Complete with the most wonderful and supportive family and friends who travelled from all over the world to be a part of their special day.
Firstly, their love and unwavering commitment to each other through initially a long distance relationship. Then a global pandemic and Ciaran’s tragic accident, was (and still is) truly inspirational. Through the fantastic speeches we learnt that Ciaran used to set his alarm for 3.30am every morning so that he could Facetime Hillary when she finished work whilst still living in America. If that’s not love and dedicated commitment in a brand new relationship, we’re not sure what is!
As a Oxfordshire Wedding Videographer, it was our first time shooting at Hotel du Vin in Henley-on-Thames. Truly, it is a striking venue with charming spaces and a romantic, cosy atmosphere. A former brewery, the building is a blend of old world character, contemporary finishes and picturesque views across the water. It was thrilling to discover that the drinks reception would be taking place on a boat ride down the Thames! The weather was dry but overcast which meant everyone was able to enjoy the surroundings, take in the breath-taking views and settle into the day with a glass of fizz in hand and some delicious canapés to snack on.

The morning of the wedding had a lovely relaxed atmosphere with plenty of time to capture those all important getting ready shots. Also, the dog cuddles, the hand-crafting of signs and some fun photo opportunities with their friends too.
As Hillary is American they included the US tradition of a first-look between the bride and groom. This which was a first for us but a really lovely addition to the day. Hillary looked absolutely stunning. Her beautiful wedding dress was complemented with a modern gold headpiece, simple drop earrings and an elegant gold bracelet. Her bridesmaids looked sensational in tonal mismatched dresses too, each in a different shade of green which looked elegant and modern.
“Raise your glasses and your hearts…you are so loved by all of us and we are cheering you on all the way…”

Although their day didn’t focus too heavily on Ciaran’s accident, it didn’t shy away from it either. When a couple have gone through such adversity like these two and manage to come out of the other side with a fire in their belly and a lust for life it’s clear that yes, it was a terrible thing to happen, but it certainly won’t define them and their future together. If anything, it’s made them a stronger team with a solid partnership which is what made their day so poignant. Queue light-hearted jokes, an incredible first dance and instead of decorating the wedding car with the classic ‘just married’ tin cans, it was Ciaran’s wheelchair that got a glow up instead!
Undeniably, an inspiring couple with a unique love story. Thank you Hillary & Ciaran for asking us to be a part of your special day.
